Showcases how institutional erosion occurs when politics becomes all-consuming. In the absence of institutional evolution, wear and tear will eventually destroy any political system. They locate the failure mainly in norms and elite restraint, where I locate it in institutional design. Very accessible, and a good first book on democratic decline.
