The age of surveillance capitalism, by Shoshana Zuboff

The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power (2019)

A book that lays down much of the vocabulary around algorithms and agency. It highlights the silent coup that occurred when we started outsourcing our epistemic and cognitive agency to profit-driven algorithms. It is long, and it occasionally treats a business model as though it were a total system. Read it for the conceptual apparatus, which we all now use whether we credit her or not.

Read it asking: How long would you last without your smartphone, and when exactly did you agree to that dependency?
